7 Common
Binding
Techniques.

Saddle Stitching

Similar to stapling, this common binding technique punches wire through all pages, including the cover, and bends the wire flat inside the center spread. Suitable for 8-80 pages. $

Side Stitching

Using a similar technique to saddle stitching, the wire is punched through the folded, collated piece from front to back. Can accommodate a higher page count than traditional saddle stitching. Often, the stitches are covered with binding to hide them. Suitable for 2-160 pages. $$$$

Loop Stitching

Similar to saddle stitching, but with a loop created on the spine of the piece to allow for inserting into a binder. Suitable for 8-80 pages. $$$

Perfect Binding

Printed signatures (sections of folded pages) are collated before the binding edge is trimmed and has glue applied, followed by adding the final cover. Suitable for 32-500+ pages. (depending on paper thickness) We offer perfect binding with EVA glue or PUR glue, ask us which type of glue is best for your project. $$$

Lay Flat Binding

Using the same method as perfect binding, PUR binding uses a stronger binding glue that remains intact at extreme temperatures and allows for complete “lay flat” of the printed piece as the spine of the book is not attached to the spine of the cover. Suitable for 16-300 pages. $$$

Spiral Bound

Wire is threaded and shaped automatically into pre-drilled holes before being crimped to prevent the wire from slipping. Suitable for 2-300 pages. $$$$

Comb Bound

Rectangular holes are punched into the pages allowing for the rings of the plastic “comb” to thread through the punched holes, wrapping around the entire bound edge of the piece holding all pages in place. Suitable for 2-225 pages. $$$

Case Bound

This is known as hard bound, or case bound. This type of binding mounts the cover to a hard boards. There are various styles of binding the pages together on the inside of the case bound book. (smyth sewn, perfect bind, side sewn and more) This type of process will result in a ultra premium coffee style book, however is very expensive. $$$$$$
